Most unlocked phones take SIM cards, which means that in the U.S., users can choose to use them on either T-Mobile or AT&T. CDMA unlocked phones can be used on Verizon, Sprint and Cricket.

Unlocked phones are getting more popular than the phones available by the carriers in U.S. Unlocked phones available in US market have more functions and features than their competitors. Customers buying unlocked phones are more tech savvy and they know more about phones than average customers. Only issues faced by customers buying unlock are text messaging, picture messaging and web connect with their network carriers. Since these unlocked phone are compatible with popular cell phones accessories from other brands, like blackberry accessories, motorola accessories and HTC accessories, it is not hard to buy accessories for your phone even if you order it from overseas.

As far as pricing goes more customers are not aware of unlock phones pricing, customers getting unlock phones are either international travelers or individual dealers push unlock phones. Individual dealers push I phone so they can get more profit out of the deal. Wireless companies should open a fair competition on handsets and should allow customers to have all handsets available to them in open market. This will not only allow customers to have more choices but also wireless companies can track the trends for new handsets and technologies for the industry.
